Aquaculture & Marine Conservation

Whether you’re aiming for a career on or around the water or are passionate about marine life, our course is your gateway to connecting to our moana.

This course will project you to a new level of understanding of our precious marine world. You’ll learn about the different marine ecosystems, the animals that live in them and how to grow fish and shellfish in these challenging environments.

No two days will be the same. Some days you’ll be on the water in the NMIT boats, others in a lab with a microscope. Discover the challenges our oceans face and how marine conservation and restorative aquaculture can help.

Practical classes will take you out to see animals in their natural habitats. Learn to understand their biology and their needs to survive and thrive. You’ll raise some of these animals in NMIT’s world-class aquaculture rearing facilities and see the challenges
and successes of growing them in a hatchery environment onsite at NMIT.
