Kaitiaki Leadership (End of Year Programme)

Connect to nature while developing your outdoor adventure skills in our local national parks, learning about conservation and biodiversity management to protect these taonga.

The Kaitiaki Leadership Programme will build your adventure skills and conservation knowledge, from both Western and te āo Māori perspectives, across 9 days of multi-activity expeditions. A focus of this programme will be on conservation, including predator trapping and control. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to existing conservation projects. Activities can vary depending on the time of year and weather conditions.

The course will provide you with skills required for active conservation work that could include bushcraft, tramping skills, cooking in the outdoors & navigation. You will explore the wilderness of Te Tauihu (Top of the South Island) and/or Te Tai Poutini (West Coast) -perfect platforms to build up your conservation awareness and understanding of kaitiakitanga principles in environmental management of these sites.

Participants also have the opportunity to complete 13 Level 3 NCEA credits while on this programme.

The alternative 9 day programme available is Adventure Skills Development.
