Future Farming Papa Taiao Earthcare 

This year we are excited to start Papa Taiao Earthcare’s Future Farming Programme in Mohua/Golden Bay! This course mixes innovative new practices with important skills for farming.

Future Farming is made for Year 11 to 13 ākonga (students) who thrive in a practical learning environment. Every week there will be visits to farmers, contractors and food lovers in the community to practice introductory skills in beekeeping, fencing, pest control, chainsaw use, animal care, machinery maintenance, quad bike riding and tree planting.

Each farmer will introduce you to innovative farming techniques they believe are important for the future of farming. This includes technology, water management, carbon forestry, soil science, communication and the finances of farming. If you a practical person interested in a career in primary industries, then this course is for you.

On completion of this course you will be able to:

Open and close beehives under close supervision.

Open and draw out a coil of wire, tie knots, join wire, and prepare wire for transport and storage.

Plant trees or shrubs.

Prepare and use traps to control rural pest animals.
