Adventure Skills Development (End of Year Programme)


Develop your outdoor adventure skills and experience a variety of outdoor activities while on group expeditions in some of our beautiful local national parks.
The Adventure Skills Development course is a multiactivity, residential, adventure training programme. Activities can vary depending on the time of year and weather conditions, your programme could include a mixture of sea-kayaking, tramping, rock climbing or caving. The programme will include 3 x 3-day expeditions, each with a different focus or activity.
This course will provide you with skills in bush survival, navigation and cooking in the outdoors, amongst many other practical outdoor skills. You will explore the wilderness of Te Tauihu – Top of the South Island, a perfect multi-adventure platform to build up your outdoors expertise and confidence.
Participants also have the opportunity to complete 15 Level 3 NCEA credits while on this programme.

On completion of this course you will be able to:
- Prepare for, participate in, and evaluate an outdoor experience as a member of a group.
- Build skills for independent adventures and activities in the outdoors.
As this course requires students to operate in the outdoors at a high level, it is recommended that students are reasonable independent in their approach to learning, have an ability to self-manage and have a high level of interest in thh outdoors.
Note: This course runs later in the year and is thus subject to TOTSTA funding being available. Some unit standards may change. Final information on the standards specific to your course will be available prior to starting your programme.
