If you like making and fixing things and enjoy working with
your hands, then chances are you'll make a great engineer!

In this programme, you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience in NMIT’s Mechanical Engineering and Fabrication workshops. Learn essential fabrication skills, including MIG, Stick, and TIG welding, as well as metal forming using industry-standard equipment such as hydraulic rollers, a press brake, guillotine, and radial arm drill.

You’ll put your new skills into practice by designing and manufacturing projects you can take home and share with friends and family. You’ll even have the opportunity to create a project of your own, giving you a real taste of what it’s like to work as an engineer.

You will use CAD/CAM software used in industry to produce drawings and 3D models to output to our 3D printers. You could even progress to manufacture your part on our HAAS CNC machine.

This is a very practical hands-on course, so be prepared to get stuck in!

Find out more about what you will learn in the programme

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety on engineering worksites.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fabrication
    machinery, materials, and processes.
  • Assemble mechanical components under supervision.
  • Produce simple engineering component
    drawings using CAD software.
  • Create three-dimensional engineering models
    using CAD software under supervision.
  • Assemble mechanical components under supervision.
  • Use a MIG welding plant in the automotive industry.
