I have always wanted to be a sparky but wanted to know more before trying to gain an apprenticeship. I was living in Timaru, and I was going to do it down there, but when we moved to Rai Valley, I saw Electrical was a Trades Academy option so applied to do the course. I am a practical learner and need repetition to learn, this course has been great at providing this as it is so practical.

Find out more about what you will learn in the programme

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Safely isolate and verify isolation of low-voltage electrical subcircuits.
  • Demonstrate understanding and application of fundamental
    electrical safety principles in the workplace.
  • Provide effective first aid response to injuries and
    illnesses in the workplace.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical safety and safe
    working practices specific to electrical work.
  • Utilise electrical test instruments proficiently to
    take accurate measurements and diagnose basic faults.
  • Demonstrate competency in selecting, installing,
    and testing electrical fittings and components.
  • Evaluate the safety of electrical appliances
    through appropriate testing procedures.
