Tash Krammer
Tash was a Year 12 student at Waimea College when she enrolled in the Trades Academy Hospitality course. She has always enjoyed cooking and knew that chefing was a career pathway she wanted to learn more about.
After completing the Trades Academy course Tash returned to NMIT and completed the fulltime Level 3 Certificate in Cookery. This year she is back at NMIT working towards her Level 4 Certificate in Culinary Arts.
The Trades Hospitality programme provided Tash with the skills, confidence and experience to go on into fulltime study. “I’ve always enjoyed cooking. School wasn’t really my thing so it was great to be able to come to Trades Academy and be able to focus on the one subject I was really interested in.” Tash says the tutors at Trades Academy and NMIT have been great. “Bill and Daniel are really thorough and you can ask any questions. They have all this knowledge and experience that they love to pass on to the students.”
When she leaves NMIT at the end of this year, Tash plans to work as a chef, developing her practical skills and gaining industry experience. Her long term goal is to have her own fine-dining restaurant. Tash’s advice to students is: “Research what you need to get into the course of study or work area you’re interested in and make the most of any opportunities at school, like Trades Academy and Gateway – try something different.”
