Ruan Geyser
Course: Automotive Engineering
Year: Year 1
School: Marlborough Boys’ College
Ruan has recently moved to Marlborough from his homeland of South Africa. He enjoys his Trades Academy classes, meeting new people and learning new skills. Ruan has always been interested in all things mechanical and he is impressed with the machinery that he has access to on the course.
To further develop his mechanical skills, Ruan is also enrolled in his school’s Gateway programme, spending one day a week working at the local Truck Stop, in additional to attending Trades Academy. He’s very keen to pursue a career as a diesel mechanic and by attending the Gateway and Trades Academy programmes Ruan gets to stay in school to complete NCEA level 2 while still doing the practical things he enjoys.
