I enrolled on the Hospitality course as I want to learn more about cooking and gain as many skills as possible for my future. This course has been a really positive experience, it feels like a day off from school, but you are actually learning even though it doesn’t feel like it.
Jasper the tutor has been good at teaching us the skills needed in hospitality. He is funny, inclusive, and makes the learning enjoyable. He knows his stuff and is able to teach it well. I have found the tutors here treat us more like adults, they are more relaxed than my teachers at school. Some of the skills we have learnt have been challenging, but the tutors have made sure we understand what we are doing and work with us to learn the new skills.
I am from Queen Charlotte College; this means we leave at 6:30am to get to NMIT Nelson for the start of course. This was a challenge to start with, but it now doesn’t bother me as much as I want to come over every Friday for my course.
I am Year 12 this year and plan to return to school for Year 13. I am unsure of my plans beyond school, but right now I am focused on gaining as many skills as possible for when I do leave school.
