Course: Gamification
Graduated: 2025
School: Rai Valley Area School

I noticed lots of students went to Trades Academy courses, so I had a look at the booklet and liked the sound of Gamification. I like the idea of working in Game Development and this course allows you to learn about coding and creating digital images.

The best part has been the third part of this course where we ended up making a game that worked well. I play a lot of games myself, so it was cool to see how they are made. The most challenging part was coding as it depended on the software we used, but I enjoyed the challenge once I got used to doing it. I have found the tutors to be helpful and good at breaking it down into simple steps for us to learn from.

The course has been a good mix of creativity and development. I think anyone who is a gamer or likes software development would like this course as you can tailor it a bit to be more or less of what you enjoy.
I am in Year 12 this year and this course has helped me towards gaining NCEA Level 2.

I am returning to school next year as I want to try a range of things before leaving. I have signed up for the Aquaculture and Adventure Tourism Leadership Trades Academy courses for 2026. In the future I see myself doing something initially on the farm as that is what I have grown up with, but after that I might do something else.
