Issy Scoltock

Course: Aquaculture
Graduated: 2017
School: Waimea College

Issy has always been interested in the sea, marine life and boating.

“I was thinking about fish farming or super-yacht crewing in the future, but wasn’t sure which one I wanted. This course was a bit of a taster of what these two careers might look like. Being part of the Trades programme has confirmed that Aquaculture is the way I want to go in the future”.

Issy really enjoys the environment at NMIT and has made new friends from different schools. “I count down the days until Friday when I go to Trades. It’s much more practical than school and there’s a lot of hands-on experience and activities.”

A highlight has been the visits out to the Cawthron Institute and seeing the facilities and equipment there. “We get to see the whole fish-farming process. Last term we had to fertilise salmon eggs and weigh goldfish!” Issy plans to work in the salmon farming industry when she leaves school.
