At the Top of the South Trades Academy we continue to work with our schools and tertiary providers to develop new programmes for students within our region. The following two programmes are currently being developed with the aim of offering them in 2017:
This programme is being developed in conjunction with both Whenua Iti Outdoors and NMIT. The programme is designed for students who are interested in working with the uniformed services in the future, e.g. Search & Rescue, Emergency Services or Armed Forces.
The course will be offered in a 4 x 1 week block format and will have a strong practical focus. Students will have the opportunity to take part in a simulated search and rescue exercise, help “rescue” a marine vessel in trouble and find out what it’s really like to be a firefighter or paramedic, or explore other options within the army, navy or airforce.
This aviation programme is being re-developed and re-introduced for 2017. It will be based in Blenheim, at the Woodbourne Airforce Base, and is designed for students with a strong interest in working in the aviation maintenance engineering field in the future. It is likely that this programme will be a mix of one day a week training, plus block courses.
